Welcome to Chicago Paris Cabaret Connexion

Advancing Together the Art of Cabaret

Cabaret . . . a way to share stories through song, creating a community of audience and performer. Let’s make the art of cabaret performance more visible, and gain new audiences from Paris to Chicago and beyond.

Be part of the international conversation on the state of cabaret, from “professional development” toward “developing our profession”.

Why the Chicago Paris Cabaret Connexion?

To those who say “le cabaret est mort” (cabaret is dead), we say “Vive le cabaret”.

The art form of cabaret was born in Paris in the 1880s, in small venues where performer and audience were in close proximity, interacting with song, story and poetry. Cabaret is distinguished by its directness, passion, and humor. The hallmark of cabaret is its intimacy.

In 1997, Claudia Hommel gathered local performers to found Chicago Cabaret Professionals, to support the creation of a vibrant “cabaret scene” in Chicago for cabaret performers and their public. Twenty-some years later, a result of that network is the coming together of Chicago cabaret artists seeking a cultural exchange with French artists. With its first conference in Paris in September 2017, the Chicago Paris Cabaret Connexion was born.
